Elite Team Information

Commitments & Expectations:

  • Professionalism:
    • SESD’s Elite Team is a pre-professional company that represents SESD at community performances, festivals, parades, competitions, and our annual Showcase; including a featured role in our opening number. We strive to provide our community with the highest quality training possible, and the Performance Team is a direct representation of that goal.
    • Team dancers will receive training that will push them out of their comfort zone, challenge their minds and bodies, and create a sense of accomplishment as well as a desire to continue to learn and grow even more. Dancers who participate in our Elite Team will learn the importance of personal responsibility, respect towards one’s self as well as others, and many other lessons and values they can carry with them in their daily lives both now and as an adult.
    • Considering the level of professionalism expected, accepting a position in our Elite Team will require extra dedication and possibly personal sacrifices. Being part of the Team means each member relies on other teammates, instructors, and choreographers to be present and diligent. By accepting a position with our Team, each dancer is making a real commitment to SESD, the director, choreographers, and their teammates.
    • Negative attitudes will not be tolerated. Anything less than kindness and polite behavior could affect a team member’s eligibility to remain on the team.
    • Team members should be respectful to other dancers as well as their instructors and choreographers. An open and willing attitude is imperative.
    • Team members are held responsible for learning and retaining choreography. Videos will be posted online to review, and music files can be sent upon request. It is each dancer’s personal responsibility to be sure he/she remembers and can correctly perform choreography.
  • Attendance:
    • Students who plan to audition and/or are offered a position on the Elite Team are required to attend classes regularly during the Summer and Fall/Spring season.
    • Team members are expected to arrive for weekly classes and all rehearsals early and in proper dress code.
    • Team members should be absent from weekly technique class no more than 6 days per semester. Excessive absences should be made up in another age/level appropriate class in order to remain eligible to participate on the Team.
    • Team members are expected to attend each performance and rehearsal. The only excused absences are family or medical emergency/illness according to our Illness Policy. Unexcused absences could result in dismissal from the Team.
    • Any rehearsals cancelled due to inclement weather will be made up in a timely manner.
    • If a dancer “quits” the Team or is dismissed from the Team before the end of the season for any reason other than extreme injury or family emergency, a $150 re-blocking fee will be collected and no other fees can be refunded.
  • Eligibility:
    • Student for one full season at SESD
    • Enrolled in ballet, jazz, and modern at SESD. Strongly encouraged to enroll in Acro classes.
    • All dancers who audition are welcome to include a request for a solo, duo, or trio to take to competitions. Please check that option on your Audition Registration form.

2019-2020 Team Information: Posted on Current Season’s Page

  • Typically, we strive to have three Elite Teams, but each year depends on how many students audition:
    • Ruby (Rising Level 2 and Current Level 2-Ages 7-9/Beginner)
    • Diamond (Current Level 2 and Level 3-Ages 10-12/Intermediate)
    • Sapphire (Level 3 by Invitation, Level 4 and 5-Ages 13-18/Advanced)
      • Please note, we need 4 dancers to be eligible to compete in the “Group” category. Three dancers must enter the Trio category, which carry higher entry fees than Group numbers.
    • Additional solos, duos, and trios will be determined by the Director and students/parents will have the option to accept or decline their solo/duo/trio invitation.
    • Director will be looking for a small group of dancers from our Junior and Senior Teams to create a new piece to enter in local Choreography Festivals. This piece will be an extra commitment and professional level. Invitations will be sent after auditions. Students/parents will have the option to accept or decline their invitation.
  • Typically, Team Fees are as follows, but can vary year to year:
  • Levels 2-3
    • Choreography Camp: $50
    • Per Month (August-June): $55
    • Costumes: $140
  • Levels 4-5
    • Choreography Camp: $70
    • Per Month (August-June): $55
    • Costumes: $140
  • *Solos/duos/trios will need an extra costume and will require an additional $55 costume fee
  • Convention and Competition fees are separate and will be due prior to each event
    • 2019-2020 Convention and Competitions will be announced prior to auditions.
    • Convention fees vary; typically $270-$300, and do not include fees for the accompanying competition entry fees or hotel fees.
    • Competition fees vary; typically $45-$55 for Group numbers, $60-$70 for duos/trios, and $95-$115 for solos.

Rehearsal Attire:

  • Team Leotard (specific colors announced at the start of each season, and bring to all conventions)
  • Caramel Capezio footless tights, or Theatrical Pink Convertible tights
  • Hair in a bun
  • Black dance shorts and fitted tanks/sweaters are optional and up to director’s discretion
  • Shoes vary by style and group, TBD with the start of each new season

Performance Attire:

  • Costumes TBD for each group
  • Tights/Shoes as listed above. Sometimes, we will wear tennis shoes for outdoor events; to be coordinated as event details are finalized.
